ABOUT US

We are a group of students and believers based at the University of Reading who have come together on campus to create "a campus-wide community making the love and truth of Jesus known, where everyone is welcome". Since the 1930s, we have strived to continue the legacy of the first members of the Christian Union at Reading, by sharing the gospel on campus in as many ways and opportunities as we can! We hope to do this through weekly meetings, impact groups (small Bible study groups), events week, and much more!

What does a typical week at RUCU look like?

We have weekly meetings on campus on Thursdays at 7pm, which usually consists of a talk, group discussions and worship. We love socialising with one another, and we welcome everyone to RUCU, whether you're a new Christian or if you've been going to church for years, or simply just have questions. We are your CU, and we want to share the Good News to everyone! We also have a variety of activities running throughout the week, including Bible study groups (known as impact groups), CU football, CU café, Small World Café (our international group, but open to all), and social events throughout the year.

What other things does RUCU do?

We host our carol service in semester one, around the end of November/start of December, which brings in a lot of people! We also host our events week halfway through our academic year. This is our biggest evangelism mission of the year, which brings in lots of students and staff alike.

How does RUCU get equipped for a year of evangelism?

To fully equip our committee and CU, UCCF, the organisation that runs Christian Unions across the country, runs events throughout the year to aid us with evangelising on campus. These range from regional events to Forum National, a yearly event held in Wales with CUs from across the UK!

How do you connect with people outside of the university community?

We work closely with churches in and around Reading, to help students find somewhere to settle and grow in their faith. As a Christian Union, we believe that we are only a stepping stone towards church, and not church itself.
